Who and what are the change makers? They are people who take a leap of faith and dive into the unknown for the sake of pursuing their ideology for a better world. A sustainable world with people who really connect and collaborate. They are people who are giving of themselves. This is the second of a four part series showcasing people who want to make a difference.
Ricky Schutte is the Director and Creative Producer of Animal Matters, the first in a series of live events created by communicate31 to empower the Australian business community with vital information concerning animal welfare and the wider implications for business sustainability.
Last year, he moved away from his past life as an Australian-born entertainment entrepreneur, organising high profile entertainment events, to team up with communicate31, managed by eminent organisational psychologist and well-known author Clare Mann. Together, they produce events for animal welfare organisations in Australia who don’t have the infrastructure, resources or skills to do it themselves.
Animal Matters is the first of a series of high profile events taking place in Sydney, Australia on 19 March, and culminating in an international crescendo at the end of 2013. A percentage of each event is donated back to a group of animal welfare organisations.
“Having been an animal lover for over 40 years, I was unaware of the absolute horror and plight of animals in direct relation to dairy, animal farming and live export. I saw an opportunity to apply my skills to create a platform for animal welfare groups who could benefit financially and help these animals.”
Bridging the gap between animal welfare, philanthropy and entertainment, Ricky has focused his passion into designing entertainment events as a vehicle to project the message of animal plights to a wider audience.
He does not consider himself an animal activist, but a purveyor and resolutioner of ideas to profit animal causes with high profile events.
Animal Matters boasts an impressive line-up of who’s who in the animal world, with Lyn White, Campaign Director and Investigator, Animals Australia, Zoe Weil, Co-founder and President of the Institute for Humane Education (IHE), USA and ARIA award winning performer Missy Higgins, to name a few.
With Ricky on their side, animals the world over can be rest assured that they are not forsaken or alone. In a changing world that is encouraging us all to reconnect with the Earth and Mother Nature, Ricky is one of the leaders, paving the way for the rest of us to follow.
