WIE Awards Celebrates Inspiring and Enterprising Women

On the 27th April Goldsmith’s Hall, London played host to the Women: Inspiration and Enterprise (WIE) Awards. Held in association with UN Women (the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women), the event, now in their fifth year, celebrated inspirational women from a range of fields including fashion, philanthropy and media and recognised female entrepreneurship being used to generate positivity around the world.

A number of high profile figures were amongst those honoured at the event with Joanna Lumley receiving the Campaign Award and Executive Chairman and Founder of The Net-a-Porter Group Natalie Massenet MBE taking home the Enterprise Award.  Supermodel Malaika Firth was also recognized with the Exemplar Award.

WIE used this prestigious event to show its support for women all over the globe by opening with a fashion show from the LDNY Foundation, a luxury fashion initiative that supports the next generation of design talent and promotes female artisans from around the world.

The WIE Network was set up as an organization to support women by forging connections through its websites, symposiums and community as they continue to be a growing powerhouse of consumer spending.

High profile role models and prominent experts from the worlds of politics, the arts, media, business and philanthropy use the network to discuss everything from “the future role of women in technology” to “nurturing female talent in the corporate world”, “women & fundraising”, and “the balancing act of working mothers”.

A networking facility for women with big dreams and big ideas, the team behind the dream includes highly experienced media professionals, branding/marketing experts and philanthropic strategists.

WIE first launched its annual symposium in New York City in 2010 on a mission to provide a platform for this generation’s women leaders to inspire and empower the next generation.

International Lawyer Miriam González Durántez, co-host of the awards, said of the event: “It’s fantastic to be part of this year’s WIE Awards, celebrating female entrepreneurship around the world. These women have all been game-changers in their respective industries, and I know that they will all inspire the next generation of female businesswomen and philanthropists to keep pushing boundaries and achieve extraordinary things.”
