Tell us about Alpaca Plush…

Alpaca plush is a brand that embodies a commitment towards sustainability, ethical conduct and care of the environment. We have been providing luxury, style and comfort with our premium baby Alpaca Fur since 1996, so are incredibly proud to be celebrating 20 years of business this year.

We do not believe in cutting corners and truly understand the unique heritage and significance of traditional fur artisanship. Our craftsman still creates our furs almost entirely by hand, using the very same techniques passed down from their ancestors.

Using special tools and only the finest natural materials whilst combining the ancient craft of rug making with modern sewing methods, we believe our products are truly the most luxurious Alpaca fur rugs, fur throws, fur bedspreads and gifts available in the world today.

 

How does Alpaca Plush contribute to the local and international community?

Our team are very active and proud to support the communities where we operate and live. We regularly donate and volunteer at our local food banks and soup kitchens for the homeless. We are also working and planning for a community water park for local children. We are now donating to communities and support programs in Peru as well.

 

The words ‘sustainable’ and ‘ethical’ are often used as marketing tools, rather than being asserted as essential elements of business. Do you see this attitude changing?

We do see a change. While all businesses have an implicit set of inherent values, the number of businesses that have formally written values and principles is rapidly increasing. These principles have become more and more explicit and provide the framework for corporate behaviour beyond their legal obligations.  Sustained profits and principles are mutually supportive and an increasing number of companies view corporate responsibility as integral to their systems of governance.

 

 

Talk us through the craftsmanship behind making Alpaca Plush products… How does it start, where are the highlights and lowlights – what is the best part of the process?

It takes a great deal of labour and talent to produce our luxurious creations, starting with selecting the highest quality furs of the finest micron count. Each fur is thoroughly cleaned and laundered before the tanning phase. Next, the furs are stretched, tanned and sorted by colour. After the tanning process is complete, the colour match sorting begins. All fur colours are matched for the next orders to come through production. The process of putting the furs together to produce our luxurious creations is a labour of love, a great amount of time, hand craftsmanship and talent. The best part of the process is seeing the backing and special layer of cushioning sewn on to reveal the lovely new piece finished.

 

What steps do you take to make life at Alpaca Plush more positive?

We operate with a proactive attitude. A smile and a compliment go a long way. The key is taking care of people. Taking care of people and putting that personal touch in everything we do has brought us great success over the years. Life is a ride with big bright lights, filled with dreams. Be kind to those around you and enjoy it!
