On 28th January, Chinese communities across the globe will celebrate a new year, and the start of the Year of the Rooster, according to the Chinese Zodiac.
Tradition dictates that a person’s personality traits are influenced by the year of the Zodiac they are born in. To celebrate Chinese New Year we’ve identified the key style pieces that suit the Rooster personality!
Qualities and Characteristics
Rooster personalities (born 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005) are hardworking, courageous and popular.
Honest and loyal, they enjoy the company of others and the chance to be in the spotlight. They are trustworthy, outspoken and confident in their convictions – traits we like to think we share here at Positive Luxury!
Brown, gold and yellow are lucky colours for the Rooster – something to consider, because unfortunately the year of your sign is believed to provide challenges ahead!
The Rooster Style
Wear bright-coloured clothes for the festive mood, red for prosperity and courage, and gold jewellery (ethical, of course) to ward off evil spirits. Tidy up your house before the New Year as it’s considered bad luck to clean the house on the celebration day (why not check out our interview with Marie Kondo, best-selling author and queen of decluttering?).
The Top Chinese New Year Essential
Money is the most common gift given at Chinese New Year. It is traditionally given inside a red envelope, the colour of which symbolises energy, happiness and good luck. Those who receive a red envelope are wished another safe and peaceful year. (Tip: Avoid giving any amount with the number ‘4’ as the word in Chinese sounds like ‘death’! Eek.).
We suggest you upgrade from the conventional paper envelope to this vivid wallet from Okapi. Made from ethically sourced crocodile leather, it can be reused for many years to come!
For those celebrating this weekend, we wish you a joyous celebration and positivity for the year ahead! Gong Hey Fat Choy!
