January: Best of the Month

Each month Positive Luxury rounds-up our favourite picks from around the web – from the people that are inspiring us to the stories that got us talking. Plus what to look out for in the month ahead.

Our highlight of the month… Selfridges Material World

This month, Selfridges kicked off its Material World project – a three-month celebration of sustainable fashion. The event shares stories of future-facing design and manufacturing, highlighting eight ethical designers who are doing their bit to reduce their impact on the planet. Pop along to the London department store to see some stunning window displays, discover new sustainable fabrics and learn about the impact behind your clothes.

We’ve been inspired by… Repeat Roses

Repeat Roses collects and repurposes flower arrangements from events, which would otherwise be thrown away, and delivers them to nursing homes, hospitals, hospice care and pediatric cancer treatment facilities. An idea so practical and wonderful, we’re surprised no-one is doing it already!

We’ve been celebrating… Gabriela Hearst winning the Woolmark Prize

Our brand to trust Gabriela Hearst has been chosen as the womenswear winner of the 2016/17 International Woolmark Prize. Hearst was praised for a variety of wool pieces in her collection – from a utilitarian baseball jacket to a glamourous evening gown.

We want to get our hands on… Vivienne Westwood’s fashion week tote

Dame Vivienne Westwood has designed this season’s London Fashion Week Festival tote bag. Inspired by the fashion icon’s climate change campaigning, the tote is illustrated with a world map showing what will happen if temperature’s continue to rise. Snap one up for £20 during the festival – with half the profits going to Fuel Poverty Action.

Something for the weekend… Seedlip Terrace Bar at Harvey Nichols

Still doing dry January but in need of a treat? Pop along to The Fifth Floor Terrace at London’s Harvey Nichols to try a non-alcoholic tipple made with Seedlip – the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirits brand.

Something for next month… Random Acts of Kindness Week

Feel like the world could do with a little more kindness? Us too. Which is why we love the idea of Random Acts of Kindness Week, held 12-18 February.
