Multi-million selling singer, Anastacia, has become nothing short of pop-legend. After beating breast cancer twice, the superstar has collaborated with Arctic Circle and Positive Luxury to create a stunning pink diamond bracelet to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK. Ahead of the launch, we caught up with Anastacia to find out more…
Proceeds from the bracelet go towards Cancer Research UK, which we know means a lot to you. Could you tell us a little bit more about the project?
I first partnered with Cancer Research UK ahead of my time on Strictly Come Dancing. Strictly for me was about finding my femininity after having cancer twice and my double mastectomy. I did the show to prove to women who are breast cancer survivors that they can be feminine and sexy despite what cancer has done to their body. Working with Cancer Research UK was just a total no-brainer for me. I am trying to raise as much awareness as possible for women struggling with Breast Cancer, and I’m here to help raise as much money I can for breast cancer research. I am one of the lucky survivors, so I feel like it is my duty to help raise as much money as I can to go towards in to research to beating cancer once and for all.
Being a celebrity partner with Cancer Research UK means so much to me, and I’m really honoured that they support my efforts to not only raise money but also break down barriers and stigma around breast cancer because ultimately we are all united for one reason and that’s to beat cancer. And we can do that, and we will one day because of these amazing people.
This bracelet is just one way for us to raise money to go towards lifesaving research, and through this, we’re aiming to raise at least £15,000 for Cancer Research UK.
What does the bracelet represent to you?
I wanted this bracelet to be feminine. I know that having breast cancer can really damage a sense of being a ‘woman’, and I want this to represent that you can be sexy and still be a woman despite what cancer does to you, despite the scars both physically and mentally. I’m starting to believe more and more that femininity doesn’t need to be about what is on your body; breasts or no breasts I am all woman. That’s the most important thing to me to communicate to other women going through what I’ve been through. I couldn’t have survived my battles if it hadn’t have been for my incredible support network around me, and that is what this represents – that you’re not alone. Everyone who wears one of these is connected together through it.
What made you choose to partner with Arctic Circle?
I’ve been a proud supporter of Positive Luxury for years, and Arctic Circle works hard to ensure that these values are at the heart of their business. I wanted some amazing diamonds to be at the heart of this bracelet, and that’s exactly what Arctic Circle could deliver. There are so many stories that taint the reputation of diamonds, but they source fully-traceable, ethical gems that just look amazing!
What was your inspiration?
As I said, this was about femininity. I wanted to create a bracelet that was delicate and feminine for the reasons I explained above. My inspiration was to create something that people could wear every day, that still has this deep meaning and background to it. I think we’ve really managed to achieve it.
How has your own personal growth informed your latest album?
Wow, so much. Everything that I’ve been through with my musical and personal journey with cancer has got me to this stage in my life. I’m the most content and happy that I’ve ever felt and this album celebrates my Evolution in getting to where I am. I have come to embrace my own sound which I call SPROCK (Soul-Pop-Rock), and the songs on the Evolution album have my SPROCK energy, as well as a growth and maturity that having close to 20 years in this industry has given me.
What does positive living mean to you?
Positive living to me means ‘well-being’. It’s about being nice, to yourself, to your friends and family, to strangers, to the environment. We are all in this life together, and we need to put aside our differences and our disagreements to move forward and make this world a better place. There is so much hate towards so many different things, and that’s not natural or positive. Hate and negativity don’t come naturally to any of us, they come from fear. That’s what we all need to understand and act towards, give ourselves a positive attitude towards everything that we do and the world really will be a better place.
What small steps do you take each day to live a more sustainable and positive life?
It’s sometimes hard being sustainable when I’m on the road all the time because I’m often flying and travelling to places. But it is something that I’m aware of and do make sure that I tackle it right. It just comes down to the small questions really, when I think to myself ‘do I really need to this’, and that helps keep me on the right lines towards being more sustainable and positive in my approach to living.
