Cosy Mindfulness at Home

As the temperature drops and days get shorter there is nothing better than getting back to a warm, cosy house. Last year’s obsession with hygge, thankfully, is still going strong.

In case you still haven’t heard of the Danish term, “hygge” is the everyday life philosophy for better living. It’s about creating the feeling of belonging and warmth within your surroundings, and living in the present together with those around you – and creating a moment of comfort and contentment.

Our favourite book on this topic this year is Louisa Thomsen Brits’ The Book of Hygge: The Danish Art of Living Well, which pairs the topic with a tasteful curation of images to help you set the mood. You can also pick up a copy of the original soon-to-be classic, Meik Wiking’s The Little Book of Hygge.

So light a candle and snuggle down with some of our favourite pieces to make your home the ultimate winter haven.

Go Scandi

No one does Scandinavian home décor quite like brand to trust Artha Collections. Hand-crafted by talented artisans, each irresistible piece is the perfect meeting of Scandi design with local, traditional craftsmanship. Look to Artha as your go-to destination for a cosy home aesthetic, to deck out your living room with sumptuous cushions, heat-capturing rugs and warm throw blankets. Their textured rugs will immediately soften the look of the room, while the hand-spun yak wool Khullu Throw makes a perfect accent on the sofa. Or store it away in one of their beautiful handwoven baskets made from natural banana plant fibre.

Go Plush

Luxuriously soft, Alpaca Plush‘s designs are a must-have for cosy styling. Handcrafted with 100% humanely acquired alpaca, and comparable in softness to cashmere yet far more durable, Alpaca Plush perfectly captures the essence of hygge. Turn your bedroom into a cosy sanctuary with one of their sumptuous comforters on the end of your bed. Perfect for lazy Sundays spent in bed. Go Atmospheric

Perhaps the most well-known symbol of hygge is the humble candle. There really is something magical about lighting a candle on a cosy night in to help promote a real sense of contented well-being. 58 Lifestyle’s Balance Candle is our go-to when cosying up the home. The wooden wick perfectly mimics the sound of a crackling open fireplace, while its blend of natural oils infuses the room with a mood-enhancing, calming scent. Pure bliss.

Go Afar (then come back)

If you find that you just can’t turn off the sounds of the city and shifting to the hygge mindset is challenging, press the restart button and get away from it all with a luxury Spanish wellness retreat.  “Take a Breath“, one of our new favourite experiences with Rusticae Hotels, allows you to relax, recharge and recover at Hotel Masqi, where two glorious days and nights of wellness await. Once this luscious experience is over, you’ll be ready to bring the mindfulness back home.
