Diary Of An It Girl: Re-Writing The Rules on Positive Living

Charlotte Tomaszewska is the brains and beauty behind Diary Of An It Girl on Instagram, YouTube, and in Trend Prive Magazine. Positive Luxury caught up with Charlotte to find out more about what it means to be an ‘It Girl’ in this day and age, and how living more sustainably has opened her eyes to a positive lifestyle.

Hi Charlotte! What inspired you to start vlogging at Diary Of An It Girl?

My life goal is to be a TV presenter. I venture further and further down this career path I want to be known as someone who pushes boundaries, someone who breaks the rules, empowers women to embrace their individuality and ooze confidence everyday. I realised that the term ‘It Girl’ was only really known and used by my parents’ generation and so I wanted to re-invent it and give it a new meaning that would be relatable to everyone.

I wanted an ‘It Girl’ to be a woman who is 100% confident in who she is and what she can bring to any table; she knows herself to her inner core, and is fierce and fabulous. I’m very much a family orientated person with huge home values, but there’s something about travelling that makes you learn so much about yourself and it becomes addictive. So, if you have a stalk of my Instagram this is mainly what you will see!

You recently embraced a more positive lifestyle. Why do you think it’s important to live sustainably?

I never had a huge interest in sustainability, honestly, because I didn’t really understand it. After going on safari in South Africa, I cared a lot more about the welfare of animals and I felt closer to them…it’s a holiday that changes you. I started to read up on sustainability and really took an interest in it; I became annoyed by brands who clearly didn’t understand the term, yet claimed to be sustainable because they knew they ‘should’ be.

I am generally a glass-half-full kind of person and I encourage everyone to be – being as positive as possible just makes life a lot better! In regards to living a sustainable life, if you care about the welfare of animals, you care about how your clothes are made, and you desire transparency in the business operations of the brands you associate yourself with, then sustainable living is important to you. If something is important to you personally, it doesn’t matter how big or small it is, or who disagrees with you, you should follow it.

How do you think people can be empowered to make more sustainable lifestyle choices?

Throwing the word ‘sustainable’ into a sentence and hoping people are going to light up and respond positively is not realistic because sustainability is not a sexy word, so naturally, it turns people off.

Once people embrace the word ‘sustainable’ that is when the empowerment will begin! This is not going to happen overnight, but it is starting to happen slowly – look at Paris Fashion Week, when A-List stars attended events about re-usable textiles and recycling polyester. Seeing these role models take a stand and show an interest in this subject is a huge step, and it proves the the world is listening.

What are your favourite brands to trust?

Living with the ‘travel bug’, it’s not surprising that one of my favourite brands to trust is actually a company called Aracari Travel! A company who treats its clients as individuals and makes them feel special with every move they make is rare and it’s important if you are planning a big, memorable trip.

I am always conscious of the beauty products I put on my body, from make-up to moisturiser to haircare. Aveda is a brand I put my trust into, mainly because the majority of their ingredients are naturally derived; having sensitive skin, this is important to me. If you’re the same, then try their stress-fix body creme – it doesn’t irritate the skin and helps to de-stress, which for me is amazing and so necessary.
