Water Works: What You Can Do For #WorldWaterDay

On 22 March every year sees World Water Day, reminding us how valuable water is and the power of such a simple substance. This year’s theme is centred around nature, and how the answer to the world’s water challenges may in fact be found in Mother Nature herself.

Due to several environmental changes over the last century, our damaged ecosystems are affecting the quantity and quality of water that we drink. Today, 2.1 billion people are living without safe drinking water, which hugely affects their health as well as education and income.

The aim of World Water Day is to raise awareness of the issue and ensure everyone in the world has access to clean and safe water by 2030, while protecting the environment and reducing pollution. It’s estimated that 64-71% of natural wetlands have been lost since 1990 because of human activity, but one of their nature-based solutions includes restoring them, as well as replenishing forests and reconnecting rivers to floodplains.

But while 2030 may seem far off, there are ways that you can get involved right now. Whether it’s turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, participating in nation-wide events, or using social media to spread the campaign’s ‘The Answer Is In Nature’ message – plus, you can shop from brands who’ve put their name to the cause.

For each luxurious bathrobe that you purchase from #brandtotrust The Madison Collection, you can directly help those 2.1 billion people who need safe water the most. The label has always been committed to water-related projects particularly since the 2010 Haitian earthquake that saw many families without any resources. They only use environmentally-friendly production methods to produce their designs, that save on both water and energy. Today, they’ve partnered with Wine to Water in South Florida, who provide clean water to communities across Haiti and the Dominican Republic who need it – and all thanks to a simple ceramic filter. Produced locally, these filters remove 99.9% of organic contaminants and can last more than five years for a family of five people.

So explore their Feel Good, Do Good collection below, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be making an enormous and visible difference. We love ‘The Bordado Hooded Bathrobe‘ in 100% combed cotton, for an ultra-luxurious bathrobe that really makes waves.
