At just 22, Tom Fauconnet is one of France’s rising Instagrammers. A Parisian insider with heaps of style, we talk to the designer and self-starter on what life is like in the City of Lights.
You live in one of the fashion capitals of the world, how would you describe general Parisian fashion at the moment?
The fashion trend in Paris at the moment is for me a come back of vintage pieces – like the French “beret” that you can see on many bloggers everywhere on Instagram!
What is the perfect way to spend a weekend in Paris?
For me, spending a weekend in Paris is staying at the Hotel Amour next to Montmartre ( the Sacré Coeur ). It’s such a nice place to spend a lovely moment in the romantic city.
If you want to do some shopping, I recommend you go to The Opera and the Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th district of Paris. This street has the two biggest stores dedicated to fashion and shopping, especially the Galeries Lafayette – such a beautiful building, with a big dome built 100 years ago.
Not far away you will find the Place Vendôme and the Rue Saint honoré, the most luxury streets of the capital, where you could see the most beautiful Palace, fashion designers and jewelry houses – this place is called the Golden triangle, guess why! I loved to go to “Colette”, which was the coolest concept store of the city but it is now closed, I’m so sad! But if you’re looking for other concept stores I love “Tomgreyhound” in the Marais who works with so many designers like Acne Studios, Marni, Gosha, Raf Simons and many others, or if you’re more of a decor addict you can go to “Merci”, an ancient factory transformed into a big store where you could find design furniture, fashion designers, take a coffee or eat a good meal – it is a really cozy place.
My two favorites coffee places are the “Café de Flores” for the most Parisian atmosphere, and the “Holiday Café” for a trendy and aesthetic break in the 16th District.
Of course you should visit the most famous monuments of Paris, because despite all the tourists it’s always a pleasure for the eyes – the architecture of Paris is so beautiful everywhere, just walk and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

How would you describe your personal style?
Clean, minimal style with some street touches. I like to mix my outfits with vintage skate sneakers. I don’t wear many colours, I prefer simple tones like black, white, grey, beige, or khaki sometimes. My kind of style is a black tee from “Comme des garçons”, grey anthracite jeans that I cut down just above the ankle, and a pair of vintage sneakers (vans oldskool, Adidas campus or Chuck Taylor converse). I would wear this with my black over sized corduroy jacket from “The Cords”.
Which designer do you look up to the most and why?
I love so many designers like Raf Simons, Études or Alexandre Mattiussi from Ami, but my favorite one is Jonny Johansson the artistic director of Acne Studios. He creates a clean and eclectic fashion, all is so perfect in this brand: the clothes with their geometric cut and artistic print, the stores that look like art galleries. I really love the cold atmosphere of their stores. This brand is very modern for me because it is more than just a brand, Jonny Johansson creates a contemporary design, more that just selling clothes he’s telling us a story.
What is your favorite Positive Luxury Brand to trust?
My favorite Positive Luxury brand is Artha, I discovered this home brand on Positive Luxury, and I fell in love with their products. Beautiful handmade stuff, with natural materials and the quality of handmade manufacture. I totally need their striped storage baskets, and I fell totally in love with the Arrow rug – so perfect for my living room!
